"5430 Long Course"
"Denver Marathon"
Determination, dedication and hard work. That is what it takes.
Some members of the peanut gallery were a little skeptical to begin with. After all, he was in his forties and not known to be athletically inclined, ever, period.
The 5430 Long Course Triathlon on August 6th was one of those days when the peanut gallery started to come around. Initially the consensus was that he would cramp up, get sick, choke on some of the murky water in the lake, give up and go home. But that didn't happen. In fact nothing out of the ordinary happened. He ran, swam, and biked his way to the finish line with a respectable finish in the middle of the pack. The peanut gallery began to wonder about their original assessment. "This guy might do it after all", was now being whispered in the peanut gallery but no-one was ready to say it out load. Still too early. Still too risky.
Then came the Denver Marathon on October 18 and of course the peanut gallery was in attendance. The debate in the gallery was on how to compare a half triathlon to a full marathon. Was a marathon a more difficult event than a half iron man. It's hard to say. That was the conclusion they came to. It was hard to say.
Okay, here are Leland's stats from the 5430 Long Course Triathlon
And the Denver Marathon
So, it took a little convincing but the numbers speak for themselves. Right now the peanut gallery thinks he is going to do just fine in the Silverman Triathlon. That is the new consensus in the peanut gallery.
