"Game on!"
This year, Leland Sharpes, the founder of Rehabilitation Living Foundation decided to embark upon a challenge. He was searching for some motivational force, some driving purpose to energize his life. One day, while he was sitting in a bland office waiting room, he picked up a magazine and began to casually look through the pictures. They were pictures of athletes.
Leland had married into a family of athletes. His brother-in-law was a tri-athlete. His sister-in-law was a runner. And his wife was active in the local athletic community taking part in various events staged around the Colorado Front Range, where the Rocky Mountains met the vast plains that stretched out across the Eastern United States. Although athletically built, Leland had never felt the passion for any particular sport. He liked to build things, particularly houses, and had spent his life doing just that: building houses. In a moment something changed. Something that is hard to explain. One of those things that just happens. "I can do this." A little voice whispered in his ear. "I can do this."
Leland rushed home and informed his wife that he was going to compete in a triathlon, then signed up for the first triathlon. It seemed reasonably close and gave him time to get in shape: the Silverman Triathlon in Henderson, Nevada, November 8, 2009.
Game on!
